VIRUS:

The difference between Covid-19 and flu is that it is caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza is caused by Influenza Viruses A and B.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Covid-19 symptoms appear 2 to 14 days after exposure. Flu symptoms appear 1 to 4 days after exposure to the virus.
  • Covid-19 is more contagious in which a person experiences loss in taste and smell with severe illness in the lungs with a higher mortality rate. Covid-19 can cause more complications from flu-like inflammatory syndrome and blood clots.
  • Flu can be treated using antiviral drugs but for Covid-19 there is only one drug approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration i.e., Remdesivir which is an anti-viral drug.
  • It is prescribed for people who have severe illnesses and need supplemental oxygen.

FLU PREVENTION!!

  • Getting an Influenza vaccine every year is important for everyone for 6 months and above according to the National Immunisation Program flu vaccine provides a high level of protection that reduces symptoms of flu.
  • For the people who have flu symptoms try to visit a doctor as soon as possible and ask about testing for COVID-19 infection, try to rest, increase your fluid intake and manage your immune system.

AVOID GIVING FLU TO OTHER PEOPLE:

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly to stop spreading the virus as it spreads through droplets from cough, sneezes, and runny noses.
  • Cough and sneeze in your elbow so that the infection does not spread to others.
  • Rest and recover properly at home and drink plenty of fluids for more serious symptoms visit a doctor and seek medication.

TIPS TO AID RECOVERY:

To ease muscle pain and fever take simple pain-relieving medication such as Paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Always take medicines as prescribed by your doctor and include as much fluid as possible.

Gargle with a glass of warm water to relieve the sore throat and a hot water bag can help in reducing muscle pain.
